The Fans / Externals / Nacelles Module Center Engineering team is looking for Design Engineers on all shifts to support our Lansing, MI facility. The Engineering organization at Pratt & Whitney is divided into four Module Centers, including Hot Section, Compression and Mechanical Systems, Fans and Externals, and Product Delivery. The Module Centers are a world-class engineering organization, aligned by component-level hardware in different sections of the jet engine. The four module centers work in tandem to deliver Pratt and Whitney’s trademark Dependable Engines.

The engineer will be located at the P&W AutoAir facility in Lansing, MI. They will support production delivery ramp up of the PurePower® Fan Blades and Structural Guide Vanes. They will also be responsible for a wide variety of Engineering Production Support activities supporting the module center including:

(1) Implementing process improvement of manufacturing processes
(2) Aligning manufacturing process capability to design / blueprint requirements
(3) Processing Class 2 Engineering Changes
(4) Implementing cost reduction initiatives
(5) Supporting repair development
(6) Disposition non-conformances (QNs)
(7) Answer electronic supplier request for information (ESRI)

The engineer in this position will interact with internal and external customers. Qualified candidates must possess good communication and problem solving skills.

Level of Responsibility:

  • Responsible for entire projects and significant components of other projects
  • Applies their knowledge to contribute to the team, department, and possibly the business unit
  • Fully developed professional, able to work without direct guidance from others
  • May develop and coach others
  • Has in-depth knowledge of the discipline that may extend to similar fields
  • Participate on or lead multidisciplinary integrated product teams (IPTs) to develop and produce new hardware or to improve existing designs; and support design reviews and provide field technical support

Shifts seeking qualified candidates for:

  • 1st shift – Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm
  • 2nd shift – Monday – Friday 4 pm – 1 am (shift differential offered)
  • 3rd shift – Monday – Friday Midnight – 9 am (shift differential offered)
  • Weekends – Friday – Sunday 6 am – 7:30 pm (Monday – Thursday off)
Qualifications Basic Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or related discipline
  • A minimum of 5+ years of related design engineering experience
  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Gas Turbine products experienced preferred
  • Six-sigma and/or ACE certification preferred
  • 3D CAD (Pro Engineer, Unigraphics) preferred
  • Analytical background with good problem solving skills and enthusiasm to learn
  • Experience with structural analysis, vibration, FEM for stress/detection, LCF, HCF, Fracture Mechanics or Kinematics is preferred

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or related discipline
