This position will report to the Chiller Engineering Design Manager, and be responsible for mechanical design activities related to various chiller programs, through the establishment of strong relationships with all engineering, marketing, and operations team members. Primary function will be as a Special Order (customization of standard product offering) Design Engineer for a NA HVAC Applied Products.

Lead the overall design process for new product development for commercial water-cooled chillers.
Ensure designs meet both industry and Carrier design standards
Fully experienced with CREO (5+ years min) – CREO 3
Fully experienced with Windchill – Version 10.2
SAP- Configure bill of material – BOMs (product structure)
Email SAP team to add all special parts to SAP to be loaded for job sheet specific number
Add all special parts to bill of material
Configure and print job sheets
Create ECR/ECN
Create Special Order projects in Windchill
Create and revise all parts for a special order. Part numbering for customized components.
Utilize the ECN for specials parts per job
Complete all tasks for ECN release
Release Special Order project in Windchill via Change Management process.
All modeling to produce drawings and bill of material per special order
Special Order Database Management & Admin
Load all information for quotes and special orders for applied
Add any new users to the database
Special order job folder creation

Excellent skill and experience with drafting standards and procedures
Good verbal and written communications skills
Experienced with bill of material structure and databases – Carrier uses an in-house BOM database that will require some on the job training to master – must be able to leverage prior experience with other systems to learn quickly.
Interfaces with manufacturing to ensure designs met the manufacturing process requirements.
Experience with change management and ECR/ECN processes
Experience with complex 3D parametric components
Experience with sheet metal design and manufacturing processes
Experience with piping design and manufacturing processes
Experience with large assemblies
Some exposure to electro-mechanical control systems and components
Special order job folder creation
Every special order needs a folder created of all correspondence, SAP configurations and approved released job sheets
Standard work continuous improvement


Responsible for several components of a project or a complex component of a larger project
Responsible for the quality and accuracy of work and performance in meeting schedules
Contributes to the team or department by ing knowledge of one or more of the functional areas
Fully developed professional able to work without direction or guidance or direction from others
Has in-depth knowledge of the discipline and role


The successful candidate should have:

Proven and tested in a design role or capacity
Ability to manage large and complex customized projects
Proficient in handling multiple projects concurrently
Demonstrated ability to influence and drive change.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities
Proven significant contribution to their team by ing their knowledge of sound designs and documentation
5+ years direct design experience using Pro/Engineer/CREO 3 and Windchill, especially the sheet metal, piping, large assemblies drawing packages
Working knowledge of MRP and Bill of Material systems
Working knowledge of Change Management Systems (ECR / ECN)
ANSI Y.14 knowledge
Has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the discipline and role—continuing to develop specialized knowledge
Strong working knowledge of the products, engineering documentation system and the ability to work within an engineering design team
Working knowledge of manufacturing fabrication and assembly methods
Excellent problem solving and advanced analytical skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated detail orientation
Superior follow-up and follow-through skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
Strong communication skills with ability to interact with factory
Previous relevant job history experience in product design, especially HVAC product design and/or product sustaining
Demonstrated creativity in new product design
Works with moderate guidance on projects with short-term focus

Education: Education:

AAS – Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology or related field with 7+ years of experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology or related technical discipline with 5+ years of experience
