Job Title:Classification Technical Reviewer (Early/Mid-Career)

Will partner with other Classification Technical Reviewers to address classification needs at the Sandia site in Livermore, California.

Utilizes skills, experience, and knowledge of key national security issues to evaluate scientific advances, technologies, and other information that may, in the interests of national security, require protection. Develops and maintains classification guidance for use by U.S. government agencies. Analyzes science and engineering publications and activities to identify classified and sensitive information in accordance with sponsor requirements, federal laws, and regulations and in light of openly published research and previously released information. Interprets classification guidelines to categorize information from both ongoing projects and new state-of-the-art technology and reviews technical and security-related material to prevent inadvertent release of classified or sensitive unclassified information.

Evaluates scientific, technical, and program information to ensure the proper classification and protection of national security interests. Reviews documents and materials for proper classification and, with special authority, derivatively declassifies documents and materials. With proper authorization, acts as a derivative classifier (DC) up to the Top Secret Restricted Data level and category. Develops classification guidance for technical and nontechnical information and supports the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and other agencies in developing and implementing classification and Unclassified Controlled Information (UCI) guidance. Consults with DCs, Subject Matter Experts, and members of the workforce regarding classification questions and provides guidance as necessary. Develops classification training and provides classification-related briefings to the workforce. Reviews and approves-as Unclassified Unlimited Release or other proper designation-materials to be disseminated outside of Sandia National Laboratories. As needed, works with the external DOE classification community and other government agencies to resolve classification issues for the benefit of customers and to explore ways to resolve overarching classification issues in the DOE complex. With proper authorization, acts as an UCNI Reviewing Official. Identifies key issues and involves others (classification co-workers, management, other NNSA Classification Offices, DOE Office of Classification, etc.) as necessary to resolve. Reviews Security Incident Management Program (SIMP) incidents and makes classification determinations. Reviews and approves on Contract Security Classification Specification (CSCS) forms assuring guidance is correct, listed DC is correct, overall clearance levels are correct for work being done, and assures all information on the form is unclassified.

Technically competent in the subject areas in which classification authority will be used. Technical background and substantial experience in the development or evaluation of nuclear weapons, or any of Sandia's numerous Work for Others projects. Excellent analytical skills and the ability to identify and resolve complex problems and make recommendations. Basic knowledge and understanding of export control regulations. Experience as a derivative classifier. Knowledge and understanding of classified and sensitive information programs at other government agencies. Familiar with DOE classification and declassification policies, procedures, and guidance. Ability to work with and appropriately protect sensitive information and classified matter. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Required:



Requires bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus entry level experience (up to two years); or master's degree in relevant discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired:

Experience working with classified material, experience working in a technical field such as engineering and/or possessing a degree in a technical field.

Security Clearance:


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
