Job Details

The University of Memphis (UM) invites applications and nominations for a Chair of Excellence, who will be appointed at the rank of Professor. The person holding this position will have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field and demonstrated research expertise and interests in additive manufacturing, especially as it applies to musculoskeletal system, tissue repair, and joint replacement. This person will be expected to spearhead segments of the State of Tennessee’s effort in these areas of BME, to participate in the UM/UT Joint Graduate Program in BME, and to drive regional and national growth in basic or applied aspects of additive manufacturing, biomedical engineering, and regenerative medicine. Local institutions, including UM, continue to work together via the Memphis Research Consortium as a means to grow “BioScience” in the region. Participants include western Tennessee’s major state universities (UM and the UT Health Science Center), major medical entities (St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis VA Medical Center, Methodist-LeBonheur Hospital, Baptist Hospital System), and established corporations (Medtronic, MicroPort Orthopedics, Smith & Nephew Orthopedics, Wright Medical Technology and other medical device companies). Our vision is that this faculty member, located at UM, will lead significant segments of growth in areas of interest to these participants through programs of externally funded research, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service at all levels; such efforts are expected to bring even more regional economic growth and pride through pursuit of biomedical engineering.

Applications will be collected electronically; see workforum.memphis.edu.

Screening of applications will begin May 1, 2017 and continue until the position is filled.
