Job Details

The Integrated System Technology department includes the following programs:  Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Manufacturing Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology majors.

This position reports to the Dean, Division of Business, Technology & Public Service.

APPOINTMENT PERIOD:      

 12-month, annually renewable appointment.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:        

The Chair has the general responsibility for the continuing development, implementation, growth and maintenance of the program.  He/She will supervise all aspects of the program.  In addition, specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:


  • Teaches courses according to expected teaching load for academic chairs;
  • Works with the Division Dean to market programs to the general public.  Participates in marketing activities and efforts. Promotes programs and/or majors to the community;
  • Is responsible for programmatic or major accreditation and acts as liaison with programmatic accreditation entities;
  • Performs and manages the duties associated with academic assessment of courses and programs;
  • Develops courses, majors, certificates, and programs through needs analysis, curriculum development, institutional and external approval, and articulation of credit with senior institutions;
  • Assumes accountability for adequate enrollment in program and majors;
  • Performs comprehensive curriculum review of programs and majors;
  • Evaluates candidates for full-time and part-time employment as faculty members and makes staffing recommendations to the Division Dean;
  • Conducts performance evaluations and develops improvement plans for program and department faculty members.  Uses performance data to make decisions on continued employment;
  • Provides daily supervision to program and department faculty and staff;
  • Manages the departmental budget and is accountable for associated program budgets;
  • Manages departmental operations including employment paperwork, purchasing requests, equipment inventory, catalog information, course scheduling, attendance tracking, student advising, classroom and lab use, and curricular and classroom disputes;
  • Seeks, writes and submits applications for grants related to the department;
  • Reviews student requests for experiential credit;
  • Facilitates departmental and programmatic outreach by leading advisory committees associated with programs;
  • Maintains personal professional development and fosters the development of program faculty and staff;
  • Coordinates with initiatives such as Tech Prep and College Credit Plus (dual credit offerings);
  • Serves on institution-wide initiatives and committees;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

MAJOR WORK QUALIFICATIONS:          

A Master’s degree is required, and degrees in related fields are preferred.  Current certifications and licensure (as appropriate) are necessary for the successful candidate.  A minimum of three years college teaching experience, or equivalent is required with two-year college teaching experience preferred.  Previous experience fulfilling duties associated with coordination of an academic program or oversight of an academic major is preferred.  Demonstrated technical skill and three years of relevant industrial experience are required.   Knowledge of programmatic accreditation or certifications such as ABET is strongly preferred.  An appreciation for and understanding of the two-year college mission is a must.  The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide daily supervision to program faculty, manage resources, and organize activities to maximize the learning experience for students.  Candidates must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.  Familiarity with alternate modes of instruction as well as administrative and instructional software packages (such as Canvas, Blackboard, Camtasia, Banner, etc) is desirable.
