The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond and Westville, Indiana, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position starting on August 13, 2018. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering (including statics, dynamics, dynamics of physical systems, machine design, manufacturing and control), scholarly research leading to refereed journal publications, and participation in professional, university, and community service. Opportunities for interacting with regional businesses are excellent and encouraged. The primary focus for this position is the area of solid mechanics with specific emphasis in controls, advanced manufacturing, or nanomechanics. We seek a colleague whose interests complement and enhance our existing activities, who is a talented educator able to cover a wide array of courses in the mechanical engineering major, and whose research interests will provide opportunities for meaningful engineering experiences for majors.

 

A Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering, with a focus in the area of solid mechanics, which must be completed by August 1, 2018 is required. Proficiency in English, written and spoken, is required.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach all levels of mechanical engineering (both lecture and lab-based courses), develop and perform research and scholarship, obtain extramural funding to support the research program, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Some courses may be taught in the evenings and there are opportunities to teach courses in a distance learning format.
