The College of Engineering (CoE) at North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in the area of Structural Engineering Mechanics, with a focus on mechanobiology and multiscale modeling, to start in August 2018. This position is part of a cluster hire for the grand challenge initiative of the Center for Engineered Cancer Test Beds (CECTB): https://www.ndsu.edu/grandchallenge. Exceptional candidates with significant prior experience will also be considered for the rank of Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program, teach and mentor graduate students, and participate in teaching courses.

The CoE consists of the following departments: Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Construction Management & Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, each offering ABET accredited degrees, with a combined 75 faculty, and 2,315 undergraduate, 111 Master, and 131 PhD students. The CoE offers a Minor in Biomedical Engineering, and PhD and MS degrees in Biomedical Engineering through a joint collaborative interdisciplinary program with the University of North Dakota (UND) and also hosts students from several interdisciplinary programs including Materials and Nanotechnology. Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned Ph.D. in an engineering or applied science field with a focus on structural engineering mechanics or closely related discipline
  • Specialization in the area of multiscale modeling
  • Evidence of excellent research, including a strong publication record 
  • Evidence of or potential for excellent teaching
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to working with and teaching diverse groups, including women and minorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with multiscale modeling in biology
  • Undergraduate and graduate teaching experience
  • Evidence of successful grant writing and research funding
