Pending position clearance and availability of funds, to begin approximately August 1, 2018 or as soon thereafter as possible.

This position is part of the College-wide effort to establish a leading interdisciplinary research team in the field of Biomedical Engineering. The successful candidate is expected to develop an excellent, externally funded research program. Possibility of collaborations with other researchers in the COE, College of Natural Science, John A. Burns School of Medicine, the UH Cancer Center exists. Applicants from all active research areas of Biomedical Engineering will be considered. The successful candidate will join one of the COE departments based on the candidate’s background.

The University of Hawai'i is a Carnegie R1 (i.e., highest research activity) university and is recognized as a Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant, and Sun Grant university. The COE offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and its undergraduate programs are ABET accredited. Duties and Responsibilities

To conduct assigned undergraduate and graduate courses or seminars, including via various distance delivery modes as required;
To develop extramurally funded research programs that result in publications in leading scholarly journals;
To present research work in leading scholarly conferences;
To supervise independent study activities;
To serve as academic advisor to students;
To serve on Department, College, and University committees;
To render service to the professional or lay community that is relevant to the individual's academic specialty;
To participate in curriculum development activities including the development of curricular materials and special instructional methods;
To participate on committees in charge of candidates for advanced degrees; and
To perform related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A doctorate from a college or university of recognized standing in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field (All-But-Dissertation, ABD, applicants will be considered; however PhD must be earned by the start of employment);
Demonstrated ability as a teacher;
Demonstrated scholarly achievement;
Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.

Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications

In addition to the Minimum Qualifications above:
Experience with extramurally funded research projects;
Evidence of proficiency in teaching;
A minimum of four years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent;
Demonstrated capacity for leadership.

Desirable Qualifications

Extramural funding from the federal government or industry.
