The Shippensburg University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position effective August 2018 for a brand new mechanical engineering program. Applicants should be prepared to teach all the general mechanical engineering courses, but since this is a new program, they will be able to create their own specialized courses as well. We welcome applicants at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank is commensurate with qualifications including prior teaching experience and/or professional experience.

The position requires teaching courses across the undergraduate curriculum including general topics like statics, dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics; as well as more specific topics such as materials, design, and processes courses.

The position also requires engaging undergraduate students through active advising and mentoring, extra-curricular groups, industry partnerships, and directed research. Ideal candidates will have the ability to teach undergraduate students in and out of the classroom, giving them both theory and hands-on practical experience to become effective engineers.

This new program is accepting its first students for fall 2018, and the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to set-up lab facilities and resources to launch the program. Ideal candidates will have experience with ABET accreditation and can help lead the effort to earn accreditation for this program.

In addition, faculty members are expected to perform other duties as assigned in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.

About the Department:

The Computer Science & Engineering department has eight full-time faculty (five men and three women), teaching approximately 250 students in our undergraduate programs in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering; and our graduate program in computer science. The department began offering engineering programs in 2010, and now has two EAC ABET accredited programs.  The new mechanical engineering program will begin in fall 2018.

Application Procedure:

All candidates must apply online at https://jobs.ship.edu with review of applications beginning November 30th 2017 and continuing until the position is filled. Materials submitted in other formats including paper applications will not be considered.  For an application to be considered complete, candidates must submit a letter of application, transcripts (unofficial for application, official if selected for interview), curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, and a statement of teaching/research philosophy.
