Faculty Positions in Thermal Energy

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) seek applicants for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions in the area of Thermal Energy to advance our energy research initiatives.  Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: system-level thermal energy applications; multifunctional/hybrid systems that combine thermal and non-thermal processes; manufacturing of thermal energy systems and components; thermal energy transport, storage, and conversion; combustion; materials for thermal energy applications; and modeling of thermal processes and systems. The originality and promise of each candidate’s work are higher priorities than the specific areas of research.

We seek applicants who will contribute to our programs and will leverage investments by the University in promoting interdisciplinary teaching and research.  These investments include, among others, the Global Institute of Sustainability (https://sustainability.asu.edu/), LeRoy Eyring Center for Solid State Science (https://le-csss.asu.edu/), Additive Manufacturing Center (https://additive-manufacturing.engineering.asu.edu/), 4D Materials Science Center (https://4dms.engineering.asu.edu/), Lightworks (https://sustainability.asu.edu/lightworks/), Global Security Initiative (https://globalsecurity.asu.edu/), Flexible Electronics and Display Center (https://flexdisplay.asu.edu/), and the Biodesign Institute (https://biodesign.asu.edu/), along with academic programs across the University.  The current openings are intended to broaden our expertise and expand collaborations.

Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and undertake service activities within the university, in the professional community, and at the national level.

Appointments will be at the assistant, associate or full professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2018.   Although the faculty appointment may be in any of the six Fulton Schools of Engineering, the Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Chemical Engineering programs in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy are currently among the most involved in the interest areas of the search.

Requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field by the date of appointment
  • Demonstrated evidence of research capability
  • Commitment to teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate’s rank

Desired qualifications:

  • Commitment to a collaborative, transdisciplinary approach to research and teaching

Review of applications will begin December 11, 2017; if not filled, reviews will occur on the 1st and 15th of the month thereafter until the search is closed.  Apply at: https://hiring.engineering.asu.edu/.  Candidates will be asked to submit the following documents through their Interfolio Dossier.

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Teaching Statement
  • Research statement
  • Contact information for three references
