Description: Description As a regulated, investor-owned utility, National Grid has been entrusted to administer energy efficiency programs for all of its customers in its US jurisdictions. The NY Strategy Analyst – NY will play a primary role in designing and advocating for energy efficiency services that meet the needs and expectations of commercial and industrial (C&I) customers in NY.
About the Position: Provide leadership to achieve alignment of internal, regulatory, and stakeholder priorities while maintaining a focus on meeting customer needs and expectations for energy efficiency and other clean energy solutions. Apply critical thinking and an understanding of both broad and detailed views to design a cost-effective portfolio of energy efficiency solutions that are innovative, holistic, and accessible. Contribute to team delivery of energy and cost savings for customers.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Core Responsibilities:
Customer Focus – Work to gain an understanding of customer needs and priorities, including differences that may exist among segments of customers within the C&I sector. Apply critical thinking through insight gained via internal/external research, analysis, and best practices in order to creatively design solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations. Position future integrated energy services linked to energy efficiency programs and services. Internal Collaboration – Work with several internal teams and vendor partners on a day-to-day basis to design and evolve the portfolio of energy efficiency solutions. With an understanding of each team’s expertise and requirements, achieve alignment on planning, development, and implementation as it relates to energy efficiency strategies. Make informed, authoritative recommendations regarding the energy efficiency portfolio. Seek ways to improve internal processes and foster cross-functional collaboration. Champion continuous improvement of energy efficiency programs Regulatory Requirements – Develop and maintain relationships with regulators, and key stakeholders involved in the regulatory process, and be an effective representative on behalf of National Grid. Attend regulatory meetings as necessary, and provide support for regulatory filings and reporting requirements. Negotiate portfolio targets and funding levels with stakeholders, regulators, local governments, customer groups, environmental organizations, and others. Stays informed of and assess the potential impact of relevant regulatory and policy developments. Metrics – Fully understand and track qualitative and quantitative metrics that apply to the energy efficiency portfolio. Metrics include energy savings, budgets/spending, participation, cost of savings, etc. Develop appropriate key performance indicators for programs, services, and solutions. Support the achievement of agreed upon metrics. Analyze data to find insight into trends that may inform strategies moving forward. Understand the nuances of each metric and how they influence each other. Industry Engagement – Collaborate effectively with NYSERDA, the Joint Utilities, and key stakeholders regularly to develop a uniform portfolio of energy efficiency solutions for C&I consumers across the state. Stay informed of industry best practices, trends, and policies by independent research, outreach, attending conferences/events, and general engagement with industry experts and stakeholders. Likewise, share applied best practices of National Grid, including presenting at regional and national conferences. General Accountabilities and Tasks: Proactively develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Represent National Grid values when meeting with internal and external stakeholders such as business, municipal, or regulatory agencies. Deliver high quality work with adherence to internal and external deadlines. Develop and maintain a solid understanding of energy efficiency trends and best practices. Develop and maintain a technical understanding of energy efficiency solutions that apply to C&I customers.
Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related area (e.g., environmental policy, engineering, economics). Advanced degree preferred 3+ years of related experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Familiarity with NY energy policy, industry practices, trends, and legislation Skills and Capability Requirements: Very strong communication skills Ability to demonstrate leadership Ability to adapt and tailor approach to a wide variety of audiences Analytical thinking Ability to organize information (quantitative and qualitative) Attention to detail Negotiation skills This position is one of National Grid’s career path roles which provide for promotional opportunities within and across salary bands as you develop and evolve in the position by gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
